Designing Better Meetings for Base-Building
Our organizing meetings should activate our members, deepen relationships, and clarify how we win, not leave us feeling drained, unclear, or struggling to recruit new people. This online training is about how to assess your group, set grounded goals, and plan your agenda toward more powerful meetings. It’s designed for base-builders leading regular organizing meetings with members and leaders.
Length: 2 hours, online
BY THE END OF THE TRAINING, YOU WILL…
- Understand common goals for your organizing meeting agendas and reflect on your current agenda planning challenges
- Use group assessment tools to inform meeting design
- Practice assessing your own group’s strengths and weaknesses and designing a meeting agenda grounded in them, with worksheets and template agendas
- Learn facilitation tools and practice remixing them for your upcoming meetings
IN THIS TRAINING, WE WILL NOT…
- Cover general facilitation best practices
- Learn how to design training curriculum or lead political education
- Focus on the particulars of online facilitation
We offer the following sliding scale fee options:
$0, full scholarship
Our sliding scale honors different abilities to pay and helps us compensate trainers, coordinators, and accessibility providers fairly. The true cost to attend this workshop is $150. We ask organizations and individuals with large budgets to pay at the higher rates to keep the workshop accessible to all. We acknowledge the different costs and considerations around your attendance, including childcare/caregiving, time away from paid work, and more, and we offer lower fee options to support your attendance. You'll need to pay by credit card when registering online. If you prefer to pay without a credit card, please contact us before registering.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP?
This training is for community, labor, and electoral organizers across sectors and issues. We welcome new and more experienced organizers. Participation in active base-building and membership recruitment in an organization or campaign is helpful, but not required, to attend this workshop.
