Fundamentals of Design for Online Meetings and Trainings

From team meetings to training sessions, this workshop gives you the tools and confidence to design online spaces that foster connection, engagement, and impact, while navigating the unique challenges of connecting virtually.  This workshop covers everything from establishing trust and flow to integrating proven design principles for effective virtual experiences. All of our workshops are designed with activists and organizers in mind, with tools and interventions designed to meet the unique challenges facing movement organizations.

Online Fundamentals workshops can be taken in any order.

Our sliding scale honors different abilities to pay and helps us compensate trainers, coordinators, and accessibility providers fairly. The true cost to attend this workshop is $200. We ask organizations and individuals with large budgets to pay at the higher rates to keep the workshop accessible to all. We acknowledge the different costs and considerations around your attendance, including childcare/caregiving, time away from paid work, and more, and we offer lower fee options to support your attendance. • Have tools, principles and strategies for designing online spaces that are effective, engaging, build group connection, and leave participants wanting more.
• Know how to build from participants’ experiences and create impactful learning using experiential and elicitive approaches. 
• Understand how designing for online spaces is different than for in-person, and how to work with those differences effectively.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP?

Do you lead movement groups online (facilitating meetings or giving trainings) or are you planning to? Are you using online facilitation to grow the power of social movements? Then this online fundamentals workshop is for you! We welcome a range of experiences – from beginner online facilitators to long-time trainers. Some face-to-face facilitation experience is helpful but not required for this training.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

This is an interactive online training using the Zoom meetings platform and Google Slides. Come prepared to participate fully. Please try to connect from a quiet place on a computer with headphones. A computer with a webcam and high-speed internet are recommended to get the most out of the training. Details for how to connect will be sent prior to the training. 

Because this is a live, participatory workshop and to create a supportive learning space, training recordings are only shared with those who were present during the workshop. The training will include follow-up resources you can use afterwards. We’ll cover tech strategies that apply across software options. For training on specific software, coaching is recommended.

ACCESSIBILITY

This training will take place online in the Zoom meetings platform. Our trainings offer multiple ways to engage in activities and we do our best to apply best practices in visual accessibility on our slides and handouts including using high contrast and alt text. Closed captioning, sign language interpretation, and advanced copies of the slides are offered if requests are received up to 1 week before the training.

COACHING

We’ve found that personalized coaching maximizes lessons learned, so we’ve dedicated capacity to support integration of new skills and tools back home.

We offer hourly individual and small group coaching around your specific needs. For example, you could use sessions for support choosing online platforms, evaluating online trainings, designing hybrid programs, preparing for an upcoming online meeting, learning Zoom features, etc. Attendees can request coaching, here.
