Effective training is not just about being able to teach the hard skills, it is also about recognizing the self-limiting beliefs that hold people and groups back from reaching their full potential. In this workshop you will learn different techniques for interventions and get better at support participants through the emotional work that is sometimes needed for people to overcome the fears, anxieties and traumas that get in the way of stronger activism.

George Lakey has spent the last ten years studying and practicing how to facilitate the process of workshop participants who want to go deeper than training formats usually encourage. His background includes the 36-day facilitator training offered by Insight Seminars, an organization which offers transformational training internationally, as well as many years spent learning Re-evaluation Counseling, Gestalt, and Process Work approaches. Along the way he has developed an approach for activists which draws on those traditions, and is eager to share his experience with other trainers of grassroots and nonprofit groups.

The workshop begins on Tuesday at 9 a.m. and runs through Saturday until 6 p.m. Like all of our trainings, the week is designed as an experiential package and requires full participation; partial attendance is not allowed. George's approach includes demonstrations, discussions, practice, and spiritual work..

The workshop costs $400-$1,150, sliding scale based on income. The market value of this workshop is at least $2000; we're able to offer it for less thanks to generous community support. The fee includes over 45 hours of training, meals during workshop hours, and simple lodging in neighborhood homes for people who request it. To determine your workshop fee, use the chart below.

Are you being sent to the training by your employer? If so, don't use your income to determine the fee -- use the annual budget of the organization. For example, if the organization's annual budget is $48,000, your employer would pay $950 to send you to the training.
