Training for Social Action Trainers   PDF  Print  E-mail

Join us for an intensive training designed for experienced facilitators wanting to revitalize their work, new trainers wanting to inspire, teachers, community leaders, activists -- anyone wanting to take their skills to a new level and learn how training can be used more effectively.

WHY THIS WORKSHOP?

People's movements from Philadelphia to the Phnom Penh are using community action in dramatic ways, but are too often cut off from each other and forced to reinvent the wheel on their own. The need is growing for people -- trainers -- who can pass along the lessons learned.

AS A PARTICIPANT, YOU WILL...

  • Enhance your ability to facilitate groups
  • Stay up to date on a rapidly growing field
  • Get the stimulation of fresh approaches, increased options, and a chance to refine your skills
  • Receive personal guidance from experienced trainers, with the number of participants kept low to allow for more individual attention
  • Take risks and try new approaches in a safe and supportive environment, and review your progress using video feedback

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP?

Experienced and less-experienced facilitators, consultants and trainers... Activists wanting to use training more effectively in their work... Teachers, community leaders, pastors, consultants and others who want more experiential tools

GOALS

  • To enhance workshop facilitation and design skills
  • To increase the training tools you can use effectively
  • To gain greater awareness of yourself as facilitator
  • To meet and receive support from other trainers and learn about new developments in the field

WORKSHOP FORMAT

The workshop begins with dinner and registration at 6 p.m. Friday and runs until 6 p.m. Sunday. The workshop is designed as an experiential package and requires full participation; partial attendance is not allowed. Building skills as a trainer raises important issues and emotions may surface during the workshop.

FEE

If taken separately, this workshop costs $175-$350, sliding scale based on income. The fee includes over 23 hours of training, meals during workshop hours, and simple lodging for people who request it. To determine your fee, use the chart below.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MONEY?

All of our workshops are on a sliding scale. That means we ask people to pay according to their ability. We generally recommend an amount based on your income.

If you can afford more, please pay more to assist others with less to attend. If you can only afford less, do not let money stop you from coming. You can contact our office for work exchange options, scholarships and ideas for funding sources.
