How to facilitate strategizing: a training of trainers   PDF  Print  E-mail
More than ever, social activists need to become sharper strategically. Winning victories for justice, peace, and environmental sanity is not getting easier. It's time to work smarter, not harder.

The good news is that skills for smart facilitation coupled with new strategy tools are available! This workshop will help you expand your toolbox to help groups think strategically and be more effective at mobilizing.

In this experimental workshop, Training for Change will teach strategy tools to:

  • strengthen participation and democracy
  • build community
  • support creativity
  • increase a group's ability to focus and make a difference.

The workshop will share tools and give practice in using them.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP?

  • Experienced trainers who want to sharpen their strategy tools
  • New trainers who care about strategy as well as workshop facilitation skills
  • Educators in high schools and universities who want to apply experiential education methods in their settings
  • Organizers who want to increase the educational dimension of what they do.

WORKSHOP GOALS:

  • To maximize the effective use of strategy tools for social change
  • To enhance workshop facilitation and design skills
  • To gain greater awareness of yourslef as facilitator
  • To meet and receive support from other trainers

This workshop prepares participants to be able to take the Advanced Training of Trainers offered by Training for Change.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

The weekend is designed as an experiential package and requires full participation; partial attendance is not allowed. Building skills as a trainer raises important issues and emotions may surface during the workshop.

A NOTE ABOUT THE STRATEGY APPROACH OF TRAINING FOR CHANGE

Some groups want to convince you of their ideology or strategy. We don't believe in being rigidly ideological, but believe in a democratic approach where everyone gets to participate in creating strategy. So our approach is to offer training to strengthen group members' strategizing skills -- critical thinking, creativity. So if you want to support your group to find flexible, participatory ways to create strategy breakthroughs, this workshop is for you!
